9-month-old baby transported to hospital after falling out of shopping cart
A 9-month-old baby was transported code 3 to the hospital after falling out of a shopping cart inside an East El Paso store.
Code 3 is the most serious condition a person can be assigned when transported to hospital.
An El Paso Fire Dispatch supervisor told ABC-7 that a call was received about 3:45 p.m. after the baby girl fell out of a shopping cart at the Goodwill in the 9000 block of Montana.
El Paso Police Sgt. Robert Torres told ABC-7 that the baby girl was conscious and responsive when taken to the hospital.
The mother of the baby had other children with her when the baby fell out of the cart. Police said it appears the baby was the only one in the shopping cart.
It is unknown if the baby had a restraint or safety belt on.
Officers remained inside the store for a couple of hours questioning witnesses and tried to get a hold of surveillance video.
Torres was asked for any advice he would give parents out shopping with their children – especially during this busy time of year.
“Parents, don’t take your eyes off your children,” Torres said.
