Autopsy: Man killed in October officer-involved shooting was on meth
The 22-year-old man shot and killed by El Paso Police outside a hotel in October was on drugs at the time and was shot seven times, according to his autopsy.
Marco Antonio Perez’s wounds included perforation of rib, lungs, and aorta in his torso and perforation of muscles and bone fractures of his lower extremities.
The autopsy also revealed there was amphetamine and methamphetamine in Perez’s blood.
Police were called out to the Quality Inn & Suites in the 6000 block of Montana at just after 5 a.m. Oct. 20 because an employee of the hotel was confronted and threatened by Perez with a gun.
The employee went inside and called police.
Three officers arrived at the scene and confronted the armed suspect. Police say officers ordered Perez to put the weapon down, but he refused.
Police say Perez threatened the officers and that is when officers shot him.
Perez died at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The Texas Rangers have not presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office, according to the DA’s spokeswoman.
Perez was arrested twice this year, in January and again in April, on drug-related charges. He was also arrested for criminal trespass of a habitation on Oct. 14, less than a week before his death.
