Xerox call center laying off nearly 500 workers in East El Paso
Hundreds of El Pasoans will have to look for a new job after massive layoffs. Xerox is laying off 490 employees at a call center in East El Paso.
About fifty customer care representatives lost their job Monday and the rest will be laid off starting September 6. A Xerox spokesman said some of the employees will be eligible for separation payments, depending on how long they’ve worked there. He said the company is scaling back for a new strategy.
Xerox officials said they sent out a notification to local and state governments notifying them of the layoffs, a step required by law. Xerox currently employs about 1,000 people in El Paso but the number will be reduced after the layoffs.
