Las Cruces man accused of robbing deli using note on menu

Neighbors of a man suspected of robbing a Las Cruces deli spotted him in surveillance pictures before he was arrested, police said.

Investigators say about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, Ethan Hunter Burton, 24, went into McAlister’s Deli at 2800 Mall Drive and demanded cash from the cashier using a note written on to-go menu.

Burton allegedly took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A detective interviewed several residents at an apartment complex at 1420 S. Telshor Dr., where Burton lives. Residents identified Burton in the surveillance photos. When the detective contacted Burton, he allegedly admitted to robbing the deli.

Burton was arrested Friday and booked into the Doa Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $10,000. He is charged with one count of robbery, a third degree felony.
