Areas of heavy rain, cooler temps

The ABC-7 StormTRACK Weather Team has issued a First Alert earlier this week for expected moderate to heavy rain, possible flash flooding and cooler temps. The First Alert has been cancelled.

Chances for rain sit around 20 percent in El Paso and 10 percent in Las Cruces tonight. A moisture plume sitting to the east of an upper level low pressure system sitting at the bootheel is providing for the storms. The low is rotating the moisture into place.

Most of the Borderland was hit by the heavy rainfall some areas reporting .50″ and others close to 1″. Official rain totals at El Paso International were .33″ at 5:00 pm. Rain chances continue tonight and Friday.

Do not attempt to walk or drive through flooded areas. Turn around, don’t drown!

Temperatures will continue to be drastically cooler than they should be. The forecast high is 80 degrees in El Paso and 79 in Las Cruces. Some areas should expect to see wind gusts above 30 miles per hour.
