Police release ID of 73-year-old pedestrian struck, killed by vehicle in Downtown Tuesday

El Paso Police have released the name of the woman struck and killed by a vehicle in Downtown El Paso Tuesday.

She has been identified as 73-year-old Alicia Mendoza of El Paso.

Police say the crash occurred at around 11:23 a.m. Tuesday when Mendoza was crossing San Antonio Street.

Mary Brubaker, 70, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on Oregon when she attempted a left turn onto San Antonio.

Police say while Brubaker was making the turn, the suburban struck Mendoza, who was walking in the crosswalk.

Mendoza died at the scene.

Police say speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash and that the case remains under investigation.

When the investigation is completed it will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for final disposition.

This is the fourth traffic-related death of 2015 compared to five at this time last year.
