Super Bowl super dark?
“How long have you been a Broncos fan?” ABC-7 asked football fan Jerry Sanchez.
“Since I was fifteen,” Sanchez said.
There were die hard fans…and there were the ones who were beyond die hard.
“Since I was zero, since I was a baby,” said a young Broncos fan.
El Paso’s Denver Broncos club gathered for the championship game.
Jerry Sanchez tells ABC-7 more than three hundred fans showed up Sunday night.
“We’re hungry, we’re exited, we’re happy, more than anything,” said Sanchez.
All of the fans had their reasons for believing their team would emerge victorious.
“We have the number one offense,” said one fan.
“Payton Manning, The guys a genius,” said Sanchez.
But by the second quarter, the Broncos were already behind 22 points.
Fans’ cheers turned to hopeful wishes.
“It’s anybody’s game, but I think they can comeback,” said another fan.
As we headed to out the local Seahawks’ fans celebration, ABC-7 learned of an unusual turn of events.
Neighbors in the Upper Valley flooded the ABC-7 newsroom with phone calls, telling us the light had gone out in the middle of the game!
“About three minutes four minutes before halftime the lights went off, everything went off, the power,” said .Enrique Salazar
Enrique Salazar wasn’t just enjoying the game at his daughter’s house, the family was also there to celebrate her birthday.
“We just turned on some lanterns and got to singing happy birthday for my daughter” said Sanchez.
We caught El Paso Electric crews checking trying to quickly fix the problem while the game was still on and El Paso police directed traffic at intersections.
But for the ones who were at the parties in the Upper Valley, lots of them just left.
“I’m on my way home to see if I can see more of the game,” said Salazar.
