Affidavit details relationship between man, woman shot by off-duty Border Patrol agent
The man who was critically injured this week, allegedly by an off-duty Border Patrol agent, was shot in the head, according to the affidavit.
Jesus Rodriguez is named in the affidavit as the person who was injured and taken to Del Sol Medical Center. The affidavit states Rodriguez told sheriff’s deputies he went to visit his girlfriend, Angelica Parra.
Parra is married to Alberto Montelongo, the man charged with two counts of criminal attempted murder after he allegedly shot Rodriguez and Parra.
Parra suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the 13900 block of Bradley of Montana Vista at 10:45 p.m. Monday on a shots fired call.
Upon arriving, deputies were informed it was a domestic violence situation and Montelongo barricaded himself with two other people – Parra and Rodriguez – inside.
According to the affidavit, Rodriguez told the sheriff’s office that Montelongo questioned him about his relationship with Parra and then told him, “This is going to end today.”
Rodriguez then pulled a handgun from his pants and allegedly began aiming it at Rodriguez and Parra and then fired his gun, according to the affidavit.
The bullet entered the front of Rodriguez’s head and lodged in the center of his brain.
A Customs and Border Protection spokesman said in a statement that the incident in Montana Vista involved two off-duty Border Patrol agents.
“During the incident, shots were fired by an off-duty agent that resulted in an injury to a third individual at that residence,” according to the CBP statement. “The agent was arrested and currently faces charges related to the incident. Alberto Montelongo is a Supervisory Border Patrol Agent and is an 11 year veteran assigned to the Ysleta Station. CBP’s Office of Internal Affairs in El Paso also responded and is reviewing the case to determine if a concurrent investigation into employee misconduct is warranted. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s investigation.”
Montelongo released Parra and Rodriguez after a few hours and he was later convinced by negotiators to surrender.
Montelongo was arrested last Thursday on a charge of domestic violence and released Friday.
