El Paso Sheriff’s Office arrests police detective on domestic violence charge
El Paso County Sheriff’s officials confirm that they have arrested El Paso Police Det. Jessica Martinez.
Martinez has been charged with ASSAULT FAMILY/HOUSE MEMBER IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULATION.
According to the affidavit, the victim, identified as a juvenile relative, said Martinez assaulted her at her residence in El Paso County on March 5, 2015.
The victim stated that she and Martinez were eating dinner in the kitchen when Martinez began to yell at her about her dog.
The victim picked up her dog and went to her room.
The victim stated that Martinez followed her into the room and continued to yell at her. The victim stated that she sat on the bed and stayed quiet because Martinez was already angry, according to the affidavit.
Martinez then allegedly placed her hands on the victim’s neck and pulled her hair, according to the affidavit.
The victim stated that she tried to run away but only made it to the hallway before Martinez allegedly began to squeeze tighter around the victim’s neck area.
The victim stated in the affidavit that she could not breathe, began to feel dizzy, and almost blacked out.
The victim fell to the floor and Martinez allegedly dragged her down the hallway and said, “I discipline in this house,” and “I can end your life,” according to the affidavit.
The victim stated that once she could not get away and could not breathe that Martinez let go of her neck and hair.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy investigating the case said he attempted to make contact with Martinez, “but was unable to do so due to her possible high level of intoxication. Martinez was uncooperative however she did claim that the victim struck her in the face causing injury to her right eye area.”
The victim’s father told the sheriff’s deputy that he did not notice any injuries to Martinez’s face after the assault and that he only noticed Martinez’s injuries once she was talking to the responding deputies.
The victim’s mother arrived at the scene during the investigation and told the sheriff’s deputy that she did not give effective consent to Martinez to assault her daughter and wished to press charges against Martinez on behalf of her daughter, according to the affidavit.
Police officials say they are aware of the arrest and Martinez has been put on administrative duty, as standard procedure.
