LCPD to implement body cameras

The Las Cruces Police Department will implement more than 70 cameras on traffic and patrol officers in the next couple of months.

This makes them the latest law enforcement agency in New Mexico to use body cameras. The cameras are only three inches tall and weight less than an ounce.

They can be worn on shoulder panels, helmets and sunglasses. The main goal is to protect officers and enhance the accountability of the department.

Police say the cameras cost about $320,000 which will be spent over a 5 year period.
