Las Cruces Police say teens drag-racing pickups crashed into Postal Service vehicle

Two teens are facing charges after they reportedly drag-raced pickup trucks and crashed into a U.S. Postal Service vehicle.

An employee was in the Postal Service vehicle at the time and was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the two 17-year-old boys were allegedly racing Ford F250 pickup trucks on Engler Road shortly after noon on April 8.

Traffic investigators say the boys were both headed eastbound on Engler when they both ran a stop sign at Jornada Road.

The 51-year-old Postal Service employee was driving northbound on Jornada in a white LLV, a Long Life Vehicle, and was passing through the intersection.

The LLV was struck first on its left-rear by the tan F250. While the LLV was spinning counterclockwise it was struck on its right-front, driver’s side, by the green F250.

The teen driver of the green F250 fled the scene and was later found at Onate High School.

The tan F250, after colliding with the LLV, struck a rock wall and was disabled.

The teen driver of the tan F250 and his passenger were not injured.

Citations against the teenage boys are pending completion of the investigation.
