Cheryl Ladd Park becoming John Lyons Park
the quality of life bond initiative is also behind the long awaited completion of a new eastside park that was once a medical waste site! today city council approved changing its name to john lyons park. located off george dieter and trawood, we’ve known the park as cheryl ladd park. john lyons is the man who originally fought for the cleanup of the former dumpsite. city council took a moment to thank mr. lyons’ family for helping make his dream of a park — a reality. lyons widow, elaine williamson, says it was not an easy thing to do: “neighbors actually cam knocking on his door in 2004 asking for his help with a park. We had some stray dogs running around and some kids were finding medical viles and things like that, so they came over and knocked on John’s door because they knew he was a strong personality in the neighborhood. ” john lyons park is coming in at just under its one-point- five million dollar budget.
