Chapin student found dead by Colorado highway

el paso school district official tells abc-7 a teen found dead in colorado was a student at chapin high. 18-year-old edgar vargas disappeared last week after telling his family he was traveling to a friend’s prom near durango, colorado. his wrecked truck was found today at the bottom of a canyon below a curvy mountain road near ouray colorado. according to k-k-c- o, vargas’ body was pulled from the canyon below u.s. 550 on red mountain pass. this is video of the area — you can see the rugged terrain. authorities had been searching for vargas since friday. the pickup wasn’t visible from the highway but a helicopter search was done tuesday. an autopsy is pending but authorities say they believe vargas’ death was an accident. the episd says it’s sending grief counselors to chapin high to help students and staff.
