Extreme Weather Task Force: Help spread the warmth
El Paso, Tx- The blanket collecting dust in the back of your closet or the one stuffed in a storage bin under your bed — could help keep someone warm this cold season.
Although a blanket may seem like a small item when temperatures drop like they did overnight, that blanket can make all the difference in the world.
The Extreme Weather Task Force wants to keep some of those less fortunate warm this winter. The annual blanket drive is one of many initiatives meant to prevent tragedies.
The Borderland experienced the first freeze of the season minimum temperatures ranged from 29 degrees at El Paso International airport, to 12 degrees in Mescalero. Grace Ortiz — with Extreme Weather Task force tells ABC-7 they currently have 200 blankets in stock.
She is encouraging Borderland residents to spread the warmth “we focus on those individuals who have underlying illnesses they are very much affected by the cold we are trying to avoid deaths”.
Ortiz is challenging the community to donate a blanket to any local fire department. The fire department will not distribute the blankets you will need to call 2-11 and register.
