Andress media students partner with ABC-7 to stream game
ABC-7 partnered with the El Paso Independent School District to stream the Andress vs. Dunbar game live on the district website.
In turn some media students were invited for a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring coverage of a story like this to life.
One by one Andress media students walked into the ABC-7 studios.
“I was actually really exited,” Clarissa Gonzalez said.
“It’s not something you get to see everyday,” Lena Fraier told ABC-7.
The future media prospects already have their career goals lined up.
“I’ve always wanted to be a news reporter,” Gonzales said.
The students got a tour of the KVIA studios and a crash course of the control room,
the stations master control department, the set and the newsroom.
For Fraier, it was more than she expected.
“I was really shocked. I didn’t know you had all these computers and all these people in different sections,” said Fraier.
“It’s a great stepping stone,” said Ismael Barraza, a Journalism teacher at Andress High School.
He tells ABC-7 he was glad his students got to experience news in the making.
“They got to see some of the things happening in a studio that are things we are learning in the classroom,” said Barraza.
For students like Gonzalez the experience was motivating.
“It just inspires me more to become a news reporter,” said Gonzalez.
“Anytime they can see and especially see graduates from our school that work at a news station, at KVIA that is a leader in the news business in El Paso I think it’s great to see they can make it,” Barraza said.
