Youth football coach who died at Providence Hospital remembered
A youth football association is asking the public for help paying for a coach’s funeral expenses.
On Monday night, 31-year-old Jose Trujillo was working underneath a parked truck at Providence Hospital on the 2000 block of North Oregon Street when the vehicle began to move. He suffered severe head injuries and later died. A friend told ABC-7 Trujillo was at the hospital for an appointment for his young son who was having asthma complications.
“He would motivate them and make sure they reached their full potential,” Horizon Dominators Youth Football Association Coach Abel Meza said.
“He was very loved and respected by all the kids,” fellow coach Jorge Jimenez said. “They really did admire him. It’s a tragic loss to his family and the Horizon Dominators family as well.”
His fellow coaches said Trujillo had a wife, young daughter and son. They’ve opened a GoFundMe account to raise money to help pay for funeral expenses.
“It hit us really close to home, not only because he was part of our family here but I also have kids his same age,” Jimenez said.
At least the Horizon Dominators have each other during this difficult time and are looking forward to when Trujillo’s son returns to play with his teammates.
