FirstLight Federal Credit Union wins national award

Service above and beyond normal requirements, community support, and actions taken against predatory lending practices have earned El Paso’s FirstLight Federal Credit Union national recognition.

The Defense Credit Union Council will name FirstLight as the 2014 Army Credit Union of the Year during its 2015 conference in August in Las Vegas.

FirstLight won the award in 2006.

“To be recognized as the national credit union of the year is a real honor, second only to that of serving our members,” said Karl Murphy, President and CEO of FirstLight Federal Credit Union. “I will accept this award on behalf of every employee at FirstLight, who gives the highest level of service and commitment to the community, and all of our members in and around El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, New Mexico.”

FirstLight’swas founded in 1955, when it was originally known as Frontier Federal Credit Union. As of May 2015, FirstLight had total assets of over $882 million, with 106,591 members.
