Jesse Garza, 11, remembered; friends raise money for funeral expenses

The memory of the Garza family continues to be honored.Friends at Mitzi Bond Elementary held a balloon release ceremony for Jesse, Friday morning.

Four members of the family were killed in a crash late Sunday morning. The victims were the mother, 39-year-old Stephanie Ann, 18-year-old Taylor, 14-year-old Peter and 11-year-old Jesse. The father, 38-year-old Peter William and six-year-old daughter Samantha survived.

The family’s SUV tire blew out, causing it to roll several times on I-10 just outside Fort Stockton.

Jesse attended the fifth grade. Friends said he was a leader and nice person. They also said mother, Stephanie, spent time volunteering at the school, working to make it a better place.

People who attended told ABC-7 the cost of transporting the bodies to Arizona, where the family is originally from, is costing around $25,000, not including funeral expenses. Friends of the Garza have started a Go Fund Me account to help Peter William pay for the costs. Money can be donated by clicking here.

Jocelyn Roberts, consultant for Jamberry nail stickers, is also selling merchandise and has promised to donated her entire July commission to the family. She can be reached at (915) 203-2492.
