Fire causes $30,000 damage to home
A fire at a Central El Paso home caused $30,000 in damage Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were sent to the house fire at about 6:13 a.m. in the 6400 block of Aztec Road.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control at 6:44 a.m. and contained it to approximately 10 percent of the property.
There were no injuries to residents or fire personnel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The home did not have working smoke alarms.
The El Paso Fire Department reminds the public about the department’s free smoke detector program. Residents who do not have a smoke detector who live within the city limits of El Paso, own their home and are willing to let the El Paso Fire Department make the installation, can request a free smoke detector by calling 485-5699 or by visitingwww.elpasotexas.gov/fire-department/services.
In less than 30 seconds, a small flame can get completely out of control and begin filling a home with thick, black, poisonous smoke. In just a few minutes, a home can become completely engulfed with flames. With the advance notice of a working smoke detector, residents can escape with their lives.
Nine units and 25 personnel from the El Paso Fire Department responded to this incident. El Paso Electric, Texas Gas and El Paso Police assisted in the incident.
