Man allegedly chokes girlfriend en route to police station
A man choked his girlfriend while she was giving him a ride to turn himself in for outstanding warrants, police said.
Jesus Garcia, 21, and his 23-year-old girlfriend were driving to the Las Cruces Police station Tuesday evening when he allegedly grabbed her by the neck and nearly caused her to crash. He allegedly choked her a second time causing her to nearly lose consciousness.
The woman then turned the car around and drove Garcia back to his mother’s home.
Garcia was wanted for battery against a different woman. He’s faces new charges of aggravated battery and battery against a household member and criminal damage to property.
Garcia still turned himself in on Wednesday night, police said. He was booked into the Doa Ana County Detention Center where he is being held under a $25,000 cash-only bond.
