Water main break dampens commute in west El Paso

A water main break in west El Paso is affecting commuters on Mesa street.

The break happened near a sidewalk at Belvidere and Mesa around 11 a.m., in front of a car wash.

An ABC-7 photographer reported the water was going through the Desert Hills Car Wash, down Desert Trail street, past The Legends apartments, past Gem Street and into an arroyo.

El Paso Water Utilities tweeted crews were on site and recommended drivers avoid the area if possible.

Spokesman Javier Camacho told ABC-7 the broken pipe is 24 inches wide.
