addressed two separate church explosions in las cruces. police say explosive devices were detonated at calvary church and holy cross cath catholic church this morning. in a news conference this evening, martinez said the devices used were improvised explosives that were meant to cause harm, injury or damage. good evening and thank you for joing us. i’m josie ortegon. and i’m evan folan. we have complete coverage of the two explosions outside the churches. we are also under an abc-7 first alert, we have been monitoring rain and some flooding in central el paso. no one’s injured. the two explosives that went off outside the churches this morning. the churches are just three-and-a half miles apart. the first explosion happened at around 8 on calvary baptist church on 1800 locust street. the second happened about half an hour later on holy cross catholic church on north miranda street. here is a look at what unfolded today. “i heard a big explosion… and ive been to vietnam so detonation of explosive devices outside two las cruces chruches sunday morning. the first explosive device went off at about 8:20 this morning in a mailbox near the administrative entrance to the calvary baptist church. the second blast only 3 miles away it was detonated inside a trash can near the front entrance of holy cross catholic church at about 8:40 john anderson, pastor holy cross church ” i took the bread in my hands and i said take it this is my… and i was bending over and saying this is my body when this large bang went off and i could see the papers floating down i didn’t know what was going on but i continued on” thankfully none of the churchgoers were harmed. the churches are both closed to the public while investigations continue. officials say that time frame between both explosions lead police to believe they could be related. law enforcement is following several leads but no arrests have been made and no one is in custody at this time. “our faith is unbreakable.” those were new mexico governor susana martinez’s words in a news conference this evening. she says those behind the explosions meant to caus the explosions meant to cause harm, injury and damage. and she’s asking new mexicans to stand united. ‘ our new mexico mobile newsroom has been on the scene following the explosions. abc-7’s jamie warren is live … she continues our complete coverage… evan, evan, josie. authorities have been out here at calvary baptist church all day. gov martinez wrapped up a news conference just hours ago where she said whoever did this, will be brought pete kassetas says the explosives used today were not firecrackers they were intended to do harm and could have done harm this is a major crime scene kassetas says they do not know if the two explosions were connected he says were connected he says they don’t know if this was a terrorist attack but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point sot martinez “ne mexicans can have faith and confidence that law enforcement will work federal and local tirelessly work to whoever is responsible is brought to justice” ta kassetas says the investigation is expected to last through out the night into the early morning. anyone with any information is asked to call 1800-call-fbi. jamie, and they’re really asking for everyone to be in the lookout for anything that looks odd or different. yes, earlier tonight we spoke with a neighbor who came home and found a ma man’s clothing on his driveway. the clothes are not his. we were talking to him when police came over and took over. jamie, thank you. calvary church posted this message on facebook today: “we are grateful that everyon on campus is safe and for the prompt response of the authorities. calvary continues to pray for our community and watch for any opportunity god may give us to serve and help las cruces in the days and months ahead.” and the diocese of el paso responded saying it is grateful to god no one was hurt: ” we pray that today’ occurrence is an isolated one and not an indication of future problems. and, as always, we stand united with our brothers and sisters, in las cruces.” law enforcement will need traffic cameras. there was flooding reported on i-10 and raynolds and i-10 and paisano. water rescue crews have been alerted and are on stand by. the biggest concern is a runoff from multiple areas–which is what’s causing flodoing.
