Skyline Park now open in north east El Paso

Construction on the north east’s Skyline Park is done, and was officially opened on Wednesday. The park at 5050 Yvette Street now has more space, including two new full-sized soccer fields, more walking trails, benches, and trees.

And it’s a park with a purpose. Not only does it provide a place to enjoy the outdoors, it also helps the area deal with rainwater. That’s part of how the city paid for the project.

“10 percent of the funds that are collected for storm water maintenance and construction of storm water facilities is actually used for building new parks,” said Tracy Novak, Parks and Recreation director.

Skyline Park doubles as a retention basin where storm water collects. The soil will help soak up water and turn the area into a park again after rains in the area.
