YISD’s Free Universal Pre-K Program

a bold move. offering a free universal pre-k program today. the district says it’s part of its plan to stress the importance of early childhood education. abc-7’s iris lopez joins us live with info on how to enroll. iris? as a mother i know how pricey daycare can be. and how important an early education is for a child. the y-i-s-d’s will offer its new universal pre-k program at 16 campuses. parents need to fill out a registration packet from the school or pre-k center of their choice. 1- thousand new students will be accepted into the program. enrollment will be first come, first serve. it’s offered free of charge to all el paso area families including those who live outside the y-i-s-d boundaries, or those who would not typically qualify for pre-k. i found excited parents already planning ahead. erica maravilla: “i’m super excited about the program because i have a 3 1/2 year old and we were already trying to prepare for next year, and i know that in the past i know that we didn’t qualify financially so now i think it’s great that we can bring our kids now and we dont necessarily have to worry about qualifying financially.” registration will begin august 10th and continue through the 21st. coming up on abc-7 at six i’ll tell you about program’s cost … and where the district plans to find the money. here’s another live look outside courtesy of
