Parents adjusting after birth of quintuplets
at 5. i’ quintuplets to the world… possibly the first ever in el paso. abc-7’s andrew j. polk is live with the story. andrew? susana giron and marco delgado are adjusting to their new lives with their three girls and two boys at providence memorial hospital… they’re also facing the reality of having to support five kids. sot 1: marco delgado: “when the doctor starts doing the count, she went ‘yep, there’s five little sacks.’ and i was like ‘five?’ and i lost my breath like gasp. oh my god.” vo: the babies all weigh about two pounds and they’re all about 13 to 14 inches tall … and you can see little diego’s foot being held by his father. he and his siblings vanessa, jackeline, montserrat and samuel will stay in the neo-natal intensive care unit until they gain weight and are healthy enough to go home. the mother is also resting in the hospital for at least the next few weeks… getting stronger from the five weeks of bed rest leading up to the births. in the meantime, marco is supporting his wife and decorating the door to their hospital room. the parents, who live in el paso and work for johnson and johnson in juarez… are looking at some big changes coming in their lives … and having to get five of everything from now on. sot 2: marco delgado: “right now, we’r taking it on a daily basis, you know, just hoping that everything comes out – becomes okay. you know, the hospital and the doctors are doing an awesome job. the babies are stable, but i’m just looking forward to, you know, just take our babies with us home.” to give some perspective, the babies are a little longer than this sheet of paper. coming up at 6, we’ll have more on how the family is doing… and what help is being offered. reporting live on the westside… andrew j. polk, abc-7. former president jimmy carter makes a grim announcement. plus — the woman allegedly raped by
