Las Cruces community remembers Jim Bradely
High school hall of fame football coach Jim Bradley has died at the age of 82.
Bradley passed away in Hospice Care surrounded by family. His death has shaken football fans across the Las Cruces community.
Jim Bradley was a long time football coach at Mayfield High School.He was a hall of fame legend who was respected and admired by many in the community.
Bradley had seven state championships and 310 coaching wins under his belt.
He was first named head coach of Mayfield High School before the 1965 season.
He went on to coach at his Alma Mater New Mexico State University. He then when onto Roswell High School before returning to Mayfield. Coach Bradley was known for his intensity. In a 1995 interview, he spoke about what it takes to be successful.
” Focus intensity whatever you’re doing if you’re an intense person you’re going to focus on what your task is you know the intensity is going to create a focus,” Bradley said.
“I spent a lot of years with him and I think he’s the greatest coach in America’s history and I played for some colleges and have my time with different people and coach was the best teacher he taught us you know he expected a lot out of you,” Ray Alderette, a 1998 state champion at Mayfield High School said. “He demanded a lot out of you but that’s what helped shape me as a man today and i still thrive with competition because of him”.
There will be visitation for Bradely at Immaculate Heart Cathedral from 6 to 7 on Sunday, August 16. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart Cathedral on Monday, August 17.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for any donations to be made to Mesilla Vally Hospice.
