Silva’s Super Market turns 90

According to Bloomberg, eight out of 10 businesses fail within the first 18 months, but one local store has lasted for 90 years. Silva’s Super Market celebrated its 90th anniversary Saturday with music, food and prizes. The store has been opened since 1925

“We’ve been here 90 years, 90 years serving El Paso, for four generations,” said Lisa Rascon, a fourth-generation Silva.

The market that started as a corner store in 1925 is now the only store in El Paso with a full-service meat market.

“We still have carcass beef that we cut down to make any cut that you want. Our butchers are ready to help you,” said Rascon.

With the store right on the border, they offer products from both countries.

It was certainly a day of celebration for this supermarket that started out as a small corner store.
