Las Cruces Boy, 6, Saves Cousin’s Life

from our new mexico mobile newsroom … a story of heroism involving a 6-year-old boy. as you can imagine, his mother couldn’t be prouder: “i’m so proud of him. words can’t express how proud i am. i think that all of this is well deserved and i think that he turned something that was a scary situation into something really positive for him.” back in july — 3- year-old ezekiel hernandez fell into the family pool while chasing a ball. ezekiel doesn’t know how to swim … but his cousin, jude collins does. so when jude saw him face down in the water, he jumped to his rescue and pulled him out. paramedics say it was that quick thinking that saved the 3-year-old’s life. “i was just swimming at the dee side and eziekiel was kind of at the deep side and i swam over to him and he was almost drowning.” now dona ana county commissioners are honoring the 6- year-old. today he received a certificate for being a good citizen. it’s an honor he says he can’t wait to share with his first grade class during show and tell.
