El Paso-Carlsbad highway shut down after pedestrian killed

A busy highway was shut down Friday morning as Texas state troopers investigated the death of a person on or near the road.

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman confirmed a dead woman was found in the middle of the road on Highway 62/180, also known as Montana Avenue, shortly past the Hueco Tanks-area Border Patrol checkpoint. The investigation was underway near mile marker 66.

The Texas Department of Transportation warned University of Texas-El Paso Miner fans the road would be closed until about 4 p.m.

The Miners play Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in Lubbock.

This alternate route will add about 80 miles to your trip: Take Interstate 10 past Midland, then head north at Stanton toward Lamesa and Lubbock.

Texas state troopers would not release any more information about the incident under investigation.
