here in the borderland. will that continue? rick cabrera gets some answers in abc-7 listens. pkg it’s called the monsoon … you might even hear it referred to as the north american monsoon, southwestern monsoon or mexican monsoon. basically it’s a shift in the winds that brings us moisture from the gulf of mexico … couple that with the summer sun serving as the fuel … and you get rain … sometimes lots of it. which brings us to a question ron posed to our stormtrackers. “i am trying to finish skylight over my garage and need a window of good weather for about 3 days. “question when do you expect the monsoon season to be over around las cruces this year? good morning el paso stormtrack meteorologist krystal klei fielded this one. “typically our monsoon season ends around the end of september, sometimes a bit sooner or later. “right now we’ve still got monsoon moisture in our region. “so, octobe weather may be a bit more calm and clear for you. traditionally the monsoon … that shift in the winds … takes place in mid- june … and again it should wrap up around september 30th. good luck with the skylight, ron! david has also been keeping any eye on our forecasts. “i went to bed hearing a 10 t 15% chance of rain and woke up to explosions of lightning, thunder and rain. “why did you guys miss it so bad and not tell us to let the pets in and roll up the windows and why the doggie bowls in the yard were full??? i see this quite often and i certainly understand why it happens … but listen closely … the chances for rain are in no way tied to the amount of severity or the rain we get. in otherwords … a 10-percent chance of rain … just means that if you are standing in any spot in the borderland you have a 10 percent probability of having sprinkles of heavy rain hit you. and vice versa … a 80-percent chance of rain could mean sprinkles … it doesn’t mean we’re going to see a torrential downpour. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens. it took two months of rehabilitation…
