El Paso Police; Man Arrested After Allegedly Filing False Police Report

A man was arrested after he crashed his vehicle then falsely reported to police that the vehicle had been stolen. That is according to El Paso police reports.

The El Paso Police Department’s auto theft task force was assigned to investigate the theft of a vehicle. Detectives learned that on August 25, 2015, 31 year old Robert Andrew Gutierrez, called police to report his vehicle stolen.

On August 26, 2015 a license plate reader identified a vehicle parked at the Value Inn located at 3610 Joe Battle as one that was reported to be stolen. Investigators
found the vehicle that was reported by Gutierrez the day before to be damaged, appearing to have been involved in a crash.

Investigators followed up with Gutierrez and after further investigation determined that he had crashed the car and decided to report the car stolen rather than report the accident. A warrant for making a false report to a police officer was obtained on Sunday.

Gutierrez was placed under arrest while at work and booked into the El Paso County Jail. His bond was set at $5,000.
