Rep. Larry Romero asks to withdraw his nomination of Carlos Aguilar III from City Plan Commission
City Rep. Larry Romero has asked to withdraw his nomination of Carlos Aguilar III from the City Plan Commission. The nomination was scheduled for a council vote Tuesday.
Romero’s legislative aide, Judy Gutierrez, told ABC-7 the city representative decided to withdraw the nomination after speaking with Aguilar on Sunday. No further reason was given.
Gutierrez notified the municipal clerk of the change this morning. It won’t become official until it comes up during the council meeting Tuesday and representatives officially delete the item, Gutierrez said.
Although the bio submitted as part of the nomination said Aguilar served as county commissioner from 1994-2004, ABC-7 archives say Aguilar served eight years, through 2002, when he lost his re-election bid to Betty Flores.
Aguilar was implicated in a public corruption investigation. According to court testimony, as a lobbyist, Aguilar asked a company to produce some money to secure a favorable vote from then-County Judge Anthony Cobos. Cobos was convicted of public corruption; Aguilar was never charged.
