UTEP Cross Country Ranks 11th in Nation
El Paso, Texas- The UTEP men’s cross country team stayed put in 11th spot in the country in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association top-30 poll on Tuesday.
The Miners captured the team title at the Conference USA Championships last weekend in Bowling Green, Ky.; it was the team’s first conference title since the 2009 slate. The squad features an outstanding head to head record of 67-3 this season. The team’s only three losses came to No. 1 Colorado, No. 7 Oregon and No. 8 Arkansas.
Anthony Rotich closed out a stellar Conference USA career with his fourth-straight individual title at the conference meet and earned the title of Senior of the Meet as well. The native Kenyan amassed a whopping 19 individual titles at C-USA meets during his career.
Jonah Koech (Freshman of the Meet/second), Cosmas Boit (third), Antony Kosgei (sixth) and Daniel Cheruiyot (seventh) were all named to the C-USA First Team alongside Rotich.
The Miners are ranked third in the Mountain Region behind No. 1 Colorado and No. 3 BYU. UTEP will be running at the NCAA Mountain Regionals (Nov. 13) looking to secure a bid to the NCAA Championships.
