Cost of renting NMSU stadium for high school rivalry game

to head at aggie memorial stadium. the usa-today has called it one of the nation’s best high school football rivalries. and to accommodate so many fans … the school district is shelling out a lot of money! abc-7’s josie ortegon is also live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. josie? i’m here at the tailgate… it’s one of the biggest high school football rivalries in the nation. it calls for nearly the same amount of resources and money as it would to put on a college rivalry game: :01-:09 :09-:16 :28-:32 :38- :44 :50-1:02 the las cruces – mayfield rivalry game draws thousands of fans, young and old. and as the crowd gets bigger, so does the game’s pricetag. sot ernest viramontes, lcps “in the past four or five years, it’s gone up from 15,000.” las cruces public schools a whopping 45 thousand dollars to rent aggie memorial stadium. nmsu says that pays for the facility itself, ushering staff, cleanup and more. sot scott breckner-“but the primary and largest item cost is really in the security costs for the event.” sot chief stepehen lopez- “nmsu police are responsible for all the traffic coming in and out of the facility, we’re responsible for the bag searches at the gates, we’re responsible for security in the parking lots, security inside the facility and security down on the field level.” stand-u “chief lopez says under state regulations, a sell out crowd would call for a staff of 120. attendance as been as high as 28-thousand in years past. staffing is based on the district’s estimates.” sot nms police chief stephen lopez-“s if they overestimate their numbers, it’s going to mean they end up paying additional expense if the estimate had been more accurate.” the district is looking into one day moving the game to the field of dreams… but l-c-p-s officials say the stadium need to be expanded first. so until then, bulldawg and trojan fans will have to face off in aggie land: sot- ernest viramontes, lcps “sometimes i think it’s little bit too much, but that’s what we have to pay and we pay it to have the event there because it is a big event and as of right now we’ve always had to have it there.” tickets are 3 and 6 bucks a piece. chief lopez says they’re going to need a staff of live in lc with our nmmn, jo, abc7. el paso’s county hospital is stepping in to save its nextdoor neighbor, el
