LC Judge sentences man convicted in brutal hammer attack

A judge has sentenced the man convicted of attacking an elderly couple with a hammer to 34 years in prison.

“Your actions sent a shock wave through this community,” said District Judge Fernando Macias.

Guy Jaime Young is already serving 22 years for violation of probation and parole for crimes in Otero County.

His violation was the crime he committed on the elderly couple.

Young told Judge Fernando Macias he was sorry for what he did to the couple, saying he deserves to be punished and wants to be punished.

Young also said he wants to be able to leave prison with a chance for at life.

He said if it was not for his dad dying, he would not be here today .

This summer Young pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, tampering with evidence and auto theft. The attempted murder charge was then dropped.

Opening arguments had taken place in Young’s attempted murder trial and the first witness was set to testify when Young changed his plea.
