The StormTRACK Weather team is coming to a school near you

As part of a community outreach plan, ABC-7’s StormTRACK Weather Team holds “Weather Academies” for local students across the Borderland.

Chief Meteorologist Doppler Dave Speelman, Meteorologist Krystal Klei, StormTracker Nichole Gomez and StormTracker Iris Lopez will connect with local schools, while teaching and interacting with students about weather and science.

The weather team provides a presentation which includes explanations about Borderland weather, and a few national weather events. Students will learn about cloud types, precipitation forms, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

The experiment portion of the presentation, includes experiments with cold and warm air masses, weather instruments and an explanation of how clouds form by using a large glass jar, warm water, and ice.

This year the Weather team will teach a session at these locations:

Chief Meteorologist Doppler Dave: St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Meteorologist Krystal Klei : Van Horn, TX

StormTracker Nichole Gomez: Northeast Children’s Education Center

StormTracker Iris Lopez: Dr. L.A. Nixon
