YISD to offer all-girl public school

only single- gender school in all of west texas. the new all-girl young women’s leadership academy will temporarily be located at ranchland hills middle school … before moving to its permanent home at hillcrest middle. the school’s curriculum will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. only 126 sixth- graders and 125 seventh-graders will be accepted for next school year. the district will be able to pay for the school now that voters approved its bond proposal. the young women’s preporatory network – which is based out of dallas – will also provide a million-dollars in funding to help finance the academy: lynn mcbee: 3:11 “when i looked at the state of texas and noticed that there was two holes within the state where our girls were not being provided this opportunity. the valley, which we’re still working on, and then west texas and so it was really my goal to make sure that we have an even footprint throughout the state of texas, and that we were able to provide our pro-gramatic innovative approach of education to the girls that were out here.” ysleta i-s-d has open enrollment, meaning students living in other districts can enroll in its schools. if you want more information on how you can enroll your daughter, call the number on our screen: that’s 915- 434-1300. we also have more information online, at kvia-dot-com. only on abc-seven tonight… i’m taking you behind the glitz
