another man outside a strip of bars in west el paso back in march of 20-14. the jury came back with the sentence yesterday afternoon, a few days after convicting castruita for the murder of efren gonzalez. the defense spent this week trying to convince the jury to go easy on castruita. but the state told the jury… “no sentenc make sense at all except life.” and that’s what castruita got. a former utep football player is waiting to be extradited back to el paso — 20-year-old david hamm was wanted for an alleged sexual assault that allegedly happened at utep back in may. hamm was arrested yesterday in lake charles, louisiana where he’s waiting to be sent back to el paso. hamm is still a college football player, listed as active at mcneese state. last season as a freshman he played in 11 mes for u-tep. another educator allegedly involved in the el paso school district cheating scandal has voluntarily surrendered her education certification. terri jordan won’t be able to teach anywhere in texas. jordan surrendered four lifetime certifications to include a superintendent certification in april of this year. in april last year, the texas education agency filed a petion to punish 11 educators including jordan. jordan served as chief of staff under former superintendent — dr. lorenzo garcia. he pleaded guilty to fraud charges. the other 3 school officials who have surrendered their education credentials are former canutillo superintent damon murphy — mirna gamoba and johnnie vega. the el paso school district is about to start using a new security system to keep tabs on anyone who visits any of the 96 e-p-i-s-d campuses. only on abc-seven … … your first look at how the new screening process works. school staff will scan a visitor’s driver’s license into a computer which will run the visitor’s through a national database for registered sex offenders. if a visitor is cleared, they’re given a badge to enter the school. if not, school officials will be weeks. an 8-year-old boy from guatemala is still in the custody of mexican officials after he was left behind by his father who tried to cross into the u-s through el paso. the boy was found tuesday walking along the rio grande on the mexican side. authorities say the boy was left involuntarily because as soon as his father crossed the river — he was arrested by border patrol agents. abc-7 made calls to the border patrol and they tell us they are awaiting notification from the mexican consulate to verify the relationship between the man in their custody and the boy in mexico. happening today … the city of el paso will finally connect a missing link in far east el paso’s road network. we are talking about the dead end at pebble hills by zaragoza. a ground-breaking ceremony will be held today the project. when its done… the east-west thoroughfare will run from from john hayes street to yarbrough drive. it will also give motorists an option to access loop 375 while avoiding the intersection of zaragoza and montwood. we are learning more about the construction project headed to i- 10 in east el paso. tex-dot says it will be revamping the entrance and exit ramps by the fountains at farah — simply because there is too much traffic. but officials at the fountains are concerned over the design and placement of the ramp. they’re concerned the new braided ramp will block the view of the retail center. “once this project starts there’s going to be a lot of inconvenience but i think it’s something that will be positive in the long run” the project is expected to begin in 2017 and should take about two years to complete. the project will also improve intersections at hawkins-airways and viscount boulevards an additional auxiliary lane will also be added to the westbound i-10 lanes. now to an update on the new trolleys that will take you from downtown el paso, up to utep, and back downtown. city video shows the old el paso trolly cars that will eventually be put back on our streets… on their way to pennsylvania for restoration. the project is costly. the state gave el paso close to one-hundred million dollars for the project… and it has to be used on a
