YMCA holds “vehicle sleepover” for a good cause

who volunteered to sleep in their cars — for a good cause. they were trying to experience what many homeless women go through. earlier this week, we told you about “no fixe address.” the y-w-c-a fundraiser helps homeless women transition to self-reliance by inviting participants to make a monetary pledge … we checked in with them as they were getting ready to spend the night in a car outside the y- w-c-a. they also had the option of sleeping outside in a designated area. participants were responsible for providing their own sleeping bag, blankets and pillows: layra marivani, marketing director ywca: “we are asking people to sleep in their cars this event benefits our transitional living center which started because women were actually sleeping in their cars in this parking lot and it its to raise awareness in the homelessness that exists in our community.” according to the ywca — more than half of the homeless population in el paso is women and children escaping abusive relationships. residents in
