Cowboys make a QB change

The Dallas Cowboys released quarterback Brandon Weeden Tuesday. The move is seen as clearing the way for injured starter Tony Romo to return to the active roster.

Matt Cassel is the only other quarterback on the roster. The team has lost seven straight games since Romo broke his clavicle. Weeden started the first three of those games. Cassel was acquired from the Buffalo Bills for a seventh-round draft choice, and has started the last four games.

Romo is eligible to return this week, under NFL rules, but it’s not clear yet if he is physically up to a starting assignment.
