High winds, blowing dust cause road closures, accidents and more around El Paso
Update: TxDOT has closed Transmountain in both directions due to high winds. It will remain closed until further notice.
El Paso County Sheriff’s officials say Transmountain is closed due to a semi rollover at milemarker 19.
A semi-truck was involved in a collision at the “spaghetti bowl,” on I-10 East at US-54 Ramp H shortly after 5 p.m. All lanes on ramp H north bound are closed. Clearing time is expected to be about four hours.
Two separate 18-wheeler traffic incidents have caused traffic problems in the area.
An 18-wheeler overturned shortly after 3 p.m. on the Spur 601 West connector, near US 54. Exit 24 A to US 54 South closed are closed and clearing time is expected to be about three hours.
In Hudspeth County, all lanes on Montana/US 62/180 remain closed due to a propane tanker rollover. The closure is expected to last about 17 more hours.

DIGIE, the Digital Wall at the El Paso Museum of History, has been closed due to the dust storm.
The Greater El Paso Landfill has been closed due to strong winds and low visibility.
The City of El Paso’s Environmental Services website states, “On windy days, please make sure trash does not blow away, block traffic, or storm drains. Avoid setting blue bins out for collection if wind gusts exceed 40 mph … .”
Clint Independent School District tweeted, “Due to current weather conditions, Horizon area campuses are experiencing intermittent power outages. However, students and staff are safe at the schools and will be released at the regular time.”
El Paso Electric posted on its Facebook page that, “Scattered outages throughout our service territory due to high winds in the area,#EPElectric crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.#BeSafe “
