Winds cause some damage in Downtown El Paso; sign hits man in Las Cruces
Tuesday, the Borderland slowly picked up the pieces from the ugly storm the ABC-7 Stormtrack Weather team warned local residents about.
The winds are sticking around but they did calm down some, giving crews throughout the El Paso time to clean up downed trees, blown off roofs, and even damaged buildings Downtown.
A few panels blew off the side of the Chase building.
The El Paso Downtown Management District just this week put up its decorations in Downtown, including wreaths and banners.
“Whether by the grace of God or by the sturdiness of the installation of the wreaths and banners, we haven’t had an reports of damaged or lost dcor,” said Rudy Vasquez, Marketing and Communications Manager, El Paso Downtown Management District
Over in Las Cruces, a man was injured when high winds blew the sign off of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store.
A Las Cruces fire official told ABC-7 a piece of that sign hit a man walking on the sidewalk.
The man ended up needing stitches.
