Get winterized: Prepare your car for winter

The winter season brings holiday cheer and family gatherings. It also brings cold, and wet weather. Climate changes don’t affect just you! They also affect your car, you wouldn’t dare step out of your house without protecting yourself or your family. Why not keep your car safe?

We stopped by Gearhead Automotive and spoke with Javier Gonzalez, he owns the auto shop located in northeast El Paso. Gonzalez said drivers should want to take care of their vehicles ” that’s their transportation they need to get back and forth to work and pick up the kids and go back and forth”.

The official start of winter is December 22nd. Gonzalez said now is the best time to get your car ready.

Keeping radiator antifreeze and coolant levels full is critical in vehicle maintenance. ” Coolant has a detergent that keeps everything lubricated and it doesn’t freeze with cold weather.” Gonzalez said.

Worn-out tires are a serious problem and can also lead to tire failure. Checking tire pressure is an important task in properly maintaining your tires. Gabriel Gonzalez has been working side by side with his brother Javier for 7 years in the auto repair shop. Gabriel says people should take the time to look under the hood of the car and check the battery. “Clean corrosion free, so, pretty much like this.” Gabriel Gonzalez said.

Everyone should have a high-quality Emergency roadside kit in their vehicle at all times, but it becomes even more important in the winter. One key component of any emergency roadside kit is jumper cables.

The Gonzalez brothers said wiper blades should be replaced every six months take your car to a mechanic before the start of the winter season and get a tune up. This may prevent you from being stranded on the road during the coldest time of the year.
