10 AT 10

investigators still on scene of a deadly crash in vinton. this is a live look from our traffic cameras right now at i-10 & vinton. two people were killed in a crash involving a car and a semi–truck. as you can see traffic is being diverted. i-10 has been shut down for nine hours as sheriff’s deputies investigate. good evening and thank you for joing us. i’m josie ortegon. and i’m evan folan. we’ll have the latest on that crash in just a bit, –but first it was a hectic morning for drivers in west el paso today. we’ve been telling you all week about a major traffic alert. we’re talking about the i-10 closure. a large portion was scheduled to be shut down for 12 hours. but, fortunately, crews managed to reopen i-10 about 5 hours earlier then expected. both east bound and west bound lanes were closed from executive center to downtown el paso beginning at five oclock this morning – but reopened just before noon abc-7’s jamie warren is live to tell us about it: evan and josie today was the day. el paso electric says after months of planning…i-10 was shut down in order to make modifactions to power lines, as part of txdot’s ongoing westside highway project while they finished early, commuters i spoke with today say the closure this morning was a major headache: “yeah it was pretty frustrating “lot of traffic, definitely a lot of traffic” el pasoans i spoke with were stuck in this bumper to bumper traffic on mesa street. “a lot more semis than ever have on mesa” while some said they weren’t warned about the project that shut down both sides of the freeway… “i was late for work because it took 45 minutes to finally get there” others planned ahead. “i think found out either friday or saturday” the closure was part of txdot’s westside highway projects. el paso electric crews re-routed these two transmission lines between executive and downtown. westbound traffic was forced to exit at mesa street and eastbound traffic was divereted onto executive center boulevard. eddie gutierrez with el paso electric tells me its unique to shut down both east and west bound lanes … “crews wer working into the night and obviously with good weather obivously our crews on hand we really were able to finish on time” while the job wrappe up around noon ..motorists agree it was a hectic morning. “i had to make alternate routes i had to put it on my gps what road to take” gutierrez says as for that part of the highway, their portion of the project is completed. jamie, thank you. it was a busy day on i-10 in another part of town today as special traffic investigators were on the scene of a deadly crash. it happened shortly before one this afternoon on i-10 east near vinton. el paso county sheriff’s deputies say a car stopped on the outside shoulder underneath the vinton overpass, that’s when they say a semi-truck struck the car from behind. two people inside the car were killed. deputies have not identified them just yet. the crash is still under investigation. let’s take another look at that area right now with our txdot cameras. we’re told the area is expected to reopen at 11. police need your help in finding the driver that fled the scene after a hit and run overnight. this is video from our ’round the clock news crew. the crash happened shortly after 1 a-m on the 7800 block of gateway east and corral. police say 53-year old editorial published today, the el paso times is calling for the resignation of city representative larry romero. this, after an investigative report revealed what others are calling some questionnable decisions he’s made while in office. the times found romero was pushing for financial advisors he had relationships with, without disclosing his ties to the company. the times obtained audio recordings of noe hinojosa, the president of estrada hinojosa, revealing he had ties with the city rep. romero was pushing the city for a contract with the firm beginning in 2013. romero has been under scrutiny recently for introducing streets that were not on the replacing plan – inlcuding some in his own district. and having speed bumps installed in front of cathedral high school – without meeting city requirments -a story we covered several weeks ago. we reached out to romero, but he has not responded for comment. the house this week approving a measure that would essentially block 70 on saturday! abc-seven’s stephanie valle sat down with him to talk sports, life and legacy. it’s a story you’ll see only on abc-7: “i didn’t know i could live tha long. time flies when you’re having fun.” much of the time — and the fun — happening at utep. stull was offered the head coaching job in 1985. and he wasn’t sold on the idea. they’d never won. in fact, the most games they had won from 1970 was 2. what convinced him? the fact that our children were a long way from grandma .. .we decided to go ahead and take the risk. 4.40 expectations were low. people would always tell me, ‘win
