president obama has shown no signs of expanding the u.s. strategy?.in the middle east?and now western europe even as he’s under pressure to do so by france and others. stephanie ramos abc news washington new this morning– turkey confirmed that it shot down a russian warplane today, claiming it had violated turkish airspace and ignored repeated warnings. russia denied that the plane crossed the syrian border into turkish skies. the ministry said the pilots parachuted but added that moscow had no further contact with them.. / meanwhile…brussels is still on high alert today after the belgian prime minister cited a “serious and imminent” threat belgium’s cris centre said on monday the alert level would only change if a significant breakthrough warranted it. the security measures, already in place for three days, have severely disrupted normal life in the capital. early morning the city’s main square remained quiet, and heavily-armed soldiers were visible around the city. the metro remains shut, leaving people to use buses and their own cars to get to work. schools also remained closed, but it was hoped that they, and the metro will reopen tomorrow. / authorities in greece say no one was hurt after a bomb explosion in athens this morning. the bomb hit a business federation headquarters near the greek parliament. police say they received a warning about 40- minutes before the explosion. a bomb squad then rushed to the area, before the bomb went off around 3-30 in the morning. the blast shattered windows and damaged nearby cars so far, there are no claims of responsibility. pope francis says this year’s christmas will be – quote – “a charade” he said holiday celebrations stand at odds with the fact that, in his words, “the whole world is at war”. the pontiff spoke after a string of violent attacks around the world, including the terrorist attacks in paris. francis said the world hasn’t understood yet the way of peace. he said wars only mean that many lives will be ruined, while arms dealers will make money. the pope also called for more compassion for the people affected by wars, such as syrian refugees. new this morning— from our new mexico mobile newsroom …. a charity clothing store in las cruces needs your help this winter keeping people warm. the gospel rescue mission is short on blankets for needy families. in the last week they have given away all they have to offer and are now having to turn people away . the store depends on donations and not only are they giving away blankets, they also give away coats and clothing–no questions asked. / “year round we’re open to giv people items that they nee. no paper work is requires and we don’t ask questions of anyone. we like to thinkwe’re a friendly operation here, welcoming to people and non- judemental” if you would like to help–you can drop off blankets, bedding, coats and warm clothing to the store located at 14-22 solano on mondays wednesdays and fridays from 9 to 11 am. you can also drop donations off at the rescue mission at 13-50 amador at any time. last week during a 2-hour period- 90 people needed help and the numbers are growing every year. / the season of giving is underway here in the borderland. a local homeless shelter for families wll be warming hearts and bellies, thanks to a motorcycle club. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with the story …denise?
