Training simulators dropped off at fire station spark bomb squad’s response

A woman’s penchant for cleaning up her son’s room ended with the bomb squad examining the items she dropped off at a fire station.

Police said the woman went to the fire station at 10000 Dyer in northeast El Paso and told them she didn’t want the items and wanted to dispose of them.

When firefighters looked into the bags, they saw items that looked like pipe bombs, put them down and called police.

As a precaution, the bomb squad responded and the area was blocked off.

After a couple of hours, members of the bomb squad determined the items were training simulators similar to the ones used by people who work with explosives.

Nearby businesses, such as the Wienerschnitzel restaurant and a Valero station across the street, remained open through the investigation.
