it’s a little quiet right now– but in a few hours the sidewalks will be lined with spectators who will begin their thanksgiving day with the sun bowl parade. the nearly three- mile long parade begins at montana and ochoa and will head east. the finish line– montana and copia. line– montana and copia. this is file video from last year’s parade. you can expect about 100 floats– many will feature hydraulics for the very first time. this year’s theme– extraordinary inventions. and if you’re a utep basketball fan– you want to come check out this year’s grand marshal. several members of the 1966 utep men’s basketball team will be honored. they were coached under don haskins and gave utep its only nc- double-a championship in the program’s history. also happening in central eel paso this morning– the 39th annual y-m-c-a turkey trot 5k run and 3k walk kicks off at 7:15 a.m. the ymca of el paso turkey trot is the largest thanksgiving day event of its kind in the region. it has now become a tradition for families across the borderland. the official start and finish line of the race are at the intersection of montana street and saint vrain. that’s near the ymca located at 810 wyoming in central el paso. registration begins at 6 a.m. we want to see your holiday photos. if you plan to attend the sun bowl parade or spend the morning prepping your meal. post them on social media. #kvia thanksgiving. we’ll share them right here on abc-7 at noon as well as on good morning el paso tomorrow morning . it’s official– the head of the catholic church, fresh off his visit to the united states… announced he is coming to juarez in just a few months! the wall street journal is reporting while in africa, pope francis told reporters he plans to visit el paso’s sister city during his four day trip to mexico in february. details on security and specifics of his juarez visit are not yet known… but we can tell you the bishop of the juarez diocese tells abc- seven the city’s faithful had been holding out hope he would make it official. bishop campos expects the pope to talk about immigration and the drug cartel violence. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… still much more to come here on good morning el paso —- new mexico’s teacher of the year from mayfield highschool in las cruces got a surprise visit yesterday at an assembly honoring him …we’ll let you know who it was. / plus— new york is getting ready for their big parade this morning as well-and thousands showed up just to watch the preparations yesterday. but first – stormtrack weather! meteorologist krystal kleihas your complete forecast. krystal… and this is abc-7, where news comes first! new mexico’s teacher of the year will travel to washington d.c. next
