Tis the season for lights

for christmas and what is a christmas without christmas lights? we caught up with people happily decorating their homes but we also spoke to some upset residents! abc-7’s jerry najera is live with a story you’ll see only on abc-7: evan, josie: can you believe christmas lights have been around more than 200 years now. it’s something that’s brought lots of joy to young and old. but as you’ll see in this story it’s also brought some heartache. the turkey’s in the tuppaware and now it’s time to put up the lights. “we’re getting ready fo christmas!” christmas lighting has come a long way since it originated in the 1800’s it all started with candles on christmas trees like this maybe not the safest idea — but it’s evolved. there’s even television shows based off of it. some might remember last year when local businessman fred loya won “light fights” for hi over-the-top christmas light show. on el paso’s east side, ed hazelton woke up early to start his task of stringing up lights. “ever single year” he tells abc-7 a this point he’s got more lights than he can count. “couldn’t eve begin to tell ya. it’s more than i need to that’s for sure” down the street neighbors are going through instructions putting their decorations together. there’s polar bears..gingerbread men and even “penguins.. penguins there you go” in el paso’ northwest side of town the feelings were a little different “horrible th kids were crying” this woman who didn’t want to be identified put her decorations out friday evening “this morning woke up and they were all missing” her childre devastated. “i felt heartbroken i was reall heart broken” and for many, the children is what it’s all about. “we do it mostly for the kids that’s our enjoyment just making sure the kids are happy” that woman who you saw there has since filed a police report. she tells us police won’t be able to look into it until monday. if your interested in catching the fred loya christmas light show it’s going on from november 27, 2015 – december 27, 2015 at 12001 paseo de oro shows are friday, saturday and sunday at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. thanks jerry. and if you’re getting ready for the holidays already, snap a pic
