Las Cruces police stockpile thousands of dollars worth of seized items with nowhere to go

Million of dollars worth of seized items are stuck in police department warehouses across the state of New Mexico.

The state passed the the New Mexico Forfeiture Act which states that all seized items must be turned over to the state treasurer’s office.

According to the treasurers office, the law was put in place to create oversight on the police departments.

However, the initiative was not funded and the treasurer’s office has nowhere to put the seized items.

This is now causing a stockpile of seized items with nowhere to go.

Evan Folan reports.
