UTEP hires new defensive coordinator

According to Minerrush.com UTEP has signed their new defensive coordinator in Tom Mason from Hawaii.

Ken Flajole was expected to take the open position, but instead accepted a position with the Philadelphia Eagles. Jeff Casteel also turned down a deal on Wednesday, so the door was open for Mason.

Previously, Mason was the defensive coordinator at Hawaii and fired after the first year with the school. Before that, Mason worked with SMU as the defensive coordinator for 7 years.

Utep is expected to make an official announcement in the coming days and will also hold a press conference.
